Gupshup Messaging Software
About Gupshup
Gupshup takes its name from the Hindi-Urdu word for friendly conversation. Beerud Sheth co-founded it in 2004 as SMS GupShup, which grew into one of India's largest social networks by 2010, before the company moved to selling messaging to businesses. As WhatsApp and RCS replaced SMS for many brands, Gupshup built its business around those channels and is a major WhatsApp Business API partner. It now sells the Gupshup Conversation Cloud and a set of industry-trained AI agents for sales, marketing, and support. Agents run on WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, RCS, web, and phone, and hand complex cases to human teams. Gupshup also offers an agent copilot with suggested replies and summaries, drip campaigns triggered by reads and clicks, voice AI agents, and an avatar agent for websites. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and keeps most of its staff in India, with offices across Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. TechCrunch reported $340 million raised in 2021 at a $1.4 billion valuation, led by Tiger Global with Fidelity and others, and a further $60 million in equity and debt in July 2025. Fidelity later cut its internal valuation of its stake. Inc42 reported consolidated revenue of about $300 million for FY23. Gupshup states 50,000-plus businesses served, 130-plus countries, 120 billion conversations a year, and roughly 900 employees across 12 offices.
